  • We’ve got much more control than money. You can’t get everything. We live in a society where money is what people want, so they can’t get the control. We chose. Control is freedom. People say we’re control freaks, but control is controlling your destiny without controlling other people. We’re not trying to manipulate other people, just controlling what we do ourselves. Controlling what we do is being free. People should stop thinking that an artist that controls what he does is a bad thing. A lot of artists today are just victims, not having control, and they’re not free. And that’s pathetic. If you start being dependent on money, then money has to reach a point to fit your expenses.

Thomas Bangalter, of Daft Punk, speaking on the group’s decision to sign with Virgin Records, as opposed to the slew of other record companies who wanted the freshly found Daft Punk in 1996.

  • I am just a middle-class farm boy from Dodge City and my grandparents were wheat farmers. I thought painting, acting, directing and photography was all part of being an artist. I have made my money that way. And I have had some fun. It’s not been a bad life.

During our downtime(s) on set, my crew and I like to do a little extra storytelling — they grab their cameras, I find an action, and we shoot “Cute Broll.”

Sleepy on Ernie was created while shooting Zach Jumper’s thesis film, “An Earnest Living.”

Shooting Ernie was a challenge: 3 shooting days, 12 1/2 pages, one 22 hour day, only 7 hours of sleep (myself — probably the most out of anyone on the crew.)

But all these numbers are worth the 1 picture wrap :)  And having seen the 1st cut of Ernie at student festivals, i know the effort was well spent — Zach made an amazing film, and we did our jobs well.

The film is currently in its finishing phases, and will soon be on the festival circuit.  You can check out an excerpt of the film on YouTube.
